Belize City Belize

Belize City Belize Belize City  is the  largest city  in the Central American country of  Belize  and was once the  capital  of the former  British Honduras . The population of Belize City is 67,964, with neighboring suburbs adding up to about 80,000. [3]  It is located at the mouth of the  Belize River  on the coast of the  Caribbean . The city is the country's principal port and its financial and industrial hub. Several cruise ships drop anchor outside the port and are tended by local citizens. The city was almost entirely destroyed in 1961 when  Hurricane Hattie  swept ashore on 31 October. It was the capital of British Honduras (as Belize was then named) until the government was moved to the new capital of  Belmopan  in 1970. [4]

The city is located in the south-central area of the country and has a large number of green areas. In 2009, it had a formal population of 1,075,000, but the metropolitan population is believed to be at least 2.3 million. San Miguel  is the third most populous  city  in  El Salvador  after  Santa Ana . It is located 138 km east of the capital,  San Salvador . It is also the capital of  the department of San Miguel  and a municipality. The population of the city in (2007) was 218,410 habitants. After the foundation of the Villa de, the Spaniards sent Captain  Luis de Moscoso east of the  Lempa River  with the entrust of the establishment of a new Spanish village. Such event took place on May 8, 1530, being the name given to the new village  San Miguel de la Frontera  (San Miguel of the Frontier). By 1586 the village had obtained the title of  city . San Pedro Sula  ( Spanish pronunciation:  [sam ˈpeðɾo sula] ) is a city in  Honduras . The city is located in the northwest corner of the country, in the Valle de Sula (Sula Valley), about 60 kilometres (37 mi) south of  Puerto Cortés  on the  Caribbean Sea . With an estimated population of 873,824 people in the main municipality, and 1,245,598 in its metro area (2010), it is the second largest city, after the capital Tegucigalpa . Managua  ( Spanish pronunciation:  [maˈnaɣwa] ) is the  capital  city of  Nicaragua  as well as the  department  and  municipality  by the same name. It is the largest city in Nicaragua in terms of population and geographic size. Located on the southwestern shore of Lake Xolotlán or  Lake Managua , the city was declared the national capital in 1852. [3]  Prior to its inception as the capital city, the title had alternated between the cities of  León  and Granada . The city has a metropolitan population of about 2,200,000, composed predominantly of  mestizos . Managua is the second most populous city in Central America, after  Guatemala City .

Holguín  ( Spanish pronunciation:  [olˈɣin] ) is a municipality and city, the capital of the Cuban   Province of Holguín . It also includes a tourist area, offering beach resorts in the outskirts of the region. It was founded as  San Isidoro de Holguín  in 1545, [4]  and it is named after its founder Captain García Holguín, a Spanish military officer. Santiago de Cuba  is the second largest city of  Cuba  and capital city of  Santiago de Cuba Province  in the south-eastern area of the island, some 540 miles (870 km) south-east of the Cuban capital of  Havana . The municipality extends over 1,023.8 square kilometers (395.3 sq mi), [2]  and contains the communities of  El Caney , Guilera, Antonio Maceo, Bravo, Castillo Duany, Leyte Vidal and Moncada. [3] Historically Santiago de Cuba has long been the second most important city on the island after Havana, and still remains the second largest. It is on a bay connected to the  Caribbean Sea  and is an important  sea port . In 2004 the city of Santiago de Cuba had a population of about 494,337 people. [4]

Guantánamo  is a municipality and city in southeast  Cuba  and capital of  Guantánamo Province . Guantánamo is served by the  Caimanera   port  near the site of a U.S. Naval base. The area produces  sugarcane  and  cotton  wool. These are traditional parts of the economy. The municipality is mountainous in the north, where it overlays the  Sierra Maestra (mountains), and borders the  Windward Passage  of the  Caribbean Sea  in the south. It is crossed by the Guantánamo, Yateras, Guaso, San Andrés and Sabanalamar rivers. The  Guantánamo Bay  is a natural harbour south of the city.
