Ciudad del Este  ( Spanish  for  City of the East ) is the second largest city in  Paraguay  and capital of the  Alto Paraná Department , situated on the  Rio Paraná . As of 2008 its population was of 320,782. Founded in 1957, it was originally called  Puerto  Flor de Lis , then until 1989  Puerto Presidente Stroessner , after  Alfredo Stroessner . The city is the seat of the  Roman Catholic Diocese of Ciudad del Este . CDE was, according to Forbes, the third commercial city in the world between 1990 and 2002. Nuestra Señora Santa María de la Asunción  ( Spanish pronunciation:  [asunˈsjon] ,  Guarani :  Paraguay ) is the  capital and largest city of  Paraguay . The  Ciudad de Asunción  is an autonomous capital district not part of any  department . The  metropolitan area , called  Gran Asunción , includes the cities of  San Lorenzo ,  Fernando de la Mora ,  Lambaré ,  Luque ,  Mariano Roque Alonso ,  Ñemby ,  San Antonio ,  Limpio ,  Capiatá  and  Villa Elisa , which are part of the  Central Department . The Asunción metropolitan area has more than 2  million  inhabitants. The Municipality of Asunción is listed on the Asunción Stock Exchange , as  BVPASA :  MUA , a unique feature of any city. It is the home of the national government, principal port, and the chief industrial and cultural centre of the country.

Temuco  is a  city  and  commune ,  capital  of the  Cautín Province  and of the  Araucanía Region  in southern  Chile . The city is located 670 kilometres (416 miles) south of  Santiago  at the heart of the modern Araucanía Region and  historic Araucanía —the land of the  Mapuche  who  resisted Spanish conquest . It is the capital of  Antofagasta Province  and  Antofagasta Region . According to the 2012 census, the  city has a population of 345,420. [4] The city of Antofagasta is closely linked to mining activity, being a major mining area of the country. The last decade has been a steady growth in the areas of construction, retail, hotel accommodations, population growth, and remarkable skyline development. Mar del Plata  is an  Argentine  city on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, 400 km (249 mi) south of  Buenos Aires . Mar del Plata is the second largest city of  Buenos Aires Province . The name "Mar del Plata" has the meaning of "sea of the  Plate region " or "adjoining sea to the (River) Plate region". [1]  Mar del Plata is one of the major fishing ports and the biggest seaside beach resort in Argentina. With a population of 614,350 as per the 2010  census   [ INDEC ] , it is the 7th largest city in Argentina .

La Plata  ( The Silver ) is the capital city of the  Province  of  Buenos Aires ,  Argentina , and of the  partido  de  La Plata . According to the 2001  census   [ INDEC ] , has a population of 740,369 and its  metropolitan area  has 894,253 inhabitants. La Plata was planned and developed to serve as the provincial capital after the city of  Buenos Aires  was  federalized  in 1880, and it was officially founded by Governor  Dardo Rocha  on 19 November 1882. Its construction is fully documented in photographs by Tomás Bradley Sutton. [1]  La Plata was renamed  Eva Perón City  ( Ciudad Eva Perón ) between 1952 and 1955. The city is home to two important  football (soccer)  teams:  Estudiantes de La Plata , that play in the  first division , and  Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata ,who just ascended back to  first division .

Mendoza  ( locally:  [menˈdosa] ) is the capital city of  Mendoza Province , in  Argentina . It is located in the northern-central part of the province, in a region of foothills and high plains, on the eastern side of the  Andes . As of the 2010  census   [ INDEC ] , Mendoza's population was 115 041. The metropolitan population was 1 055 679 in 2010, making  Greater Mendoza  the fourth largest census metropolitan area in the country. Ruta Nacional 7 , the major road running between  Buenos Aires  and  Santiago , runs through Mendoza.
