San Miguel de Allende  is a city and  municipality  located in the far eastern part of the state of  Guanajuato  in central  Mexico . It is part of the macroregion  of  Bajío . [1]  It is 274 km from  Mexico City  and 97 km from the state capital of  Guanajuato . [2]  Historically, the town is important as being the birthplace of  Ignacio Allende , whose surname was added to the town’s name in 1826, as well as the first municipality declared independent of Spanish rule by the nascent insurgent army during the Mexican War of Independence . However, the town waned during and after the war, and at the beginning of the 20th century was in danger of becoming a  ghost town . Cancún  ( Spanish pronunciation:  [kaŋˈkun] ) is a city in southeastern  Mexico , located on the northeast coast of the  Yucatán Peninsula  in the Mexican state of  Quintana Roo . It is a major world-renowned tourist destination, [2]  as well as being the seat of the municipality of  Benito Juárez . Belize City Belize Belize City  is the  largest city  in the Central American country of  Belize  and was once the  capital  of the former  British Honduras . The population of Belize City is 67,964, with neighboring suburbs adding up to about 80,000. [3]  It is located at the mouth of the  Belize River  on the coast of the  Caribbean . The city is the country's principal port and its financial and industrial hub. Several cruise ships drop anchor outside the port and are tended by local citizens. The city was almost entirely destroyed in 1961 when  Hurricane Hattie  swept ashore on 31 October. It was the capital of British Honduras (as Belize was then named) until the government was moved to the new capital of  Belmopan  in 1970. [4]

San Pedro Sula  ( Spanish pronunciation:  [sam ˈpeðɾo sula] ) is a city in  Honduras . The city is located in the northwest corner of the country, in the Valle de Sula (Sula Valley), about 60 kilometres (37 mi) south of  Puerto Cortés  on the  Caribbean Sea . With an estimated population of 873,824 people in the main municipality, and 1,245,598 in its metro area (2010), it is the second largest city, after the capital Tegucigalpa . Managua  ( Spanish pronunciation:  [maˈnaɣwa] ) is the  capital  city of  Nicaragua  as well as the  department  and  municipality  by the same name. It is the largest city in Nicaragua in terms of population and geographic size. Located on the southwestern shore of Lake Xolotlán or  Lake Managua , the city was declared the national capital in 1852. [3]  Prior to its inception as the capital city, the title had alternated between the cities of  León  and Granada . The city has a metropolitan population of about 2,200,000, composed predominantly of  mestizos . Managua is the second most populous city in Central America, after  Guatemala City .
